Breakaway Lanyards Increase Safety For Id Card Wearers

When it comes to selecting lanyards, there are an endless number of options. Color, size, length, attachment...it can get pretty confusing! Out of all the lanyard options available, the breakaway release is one of the most important. The breakaway release on a lanyard is an added safety feature that protects the individual wearing the lanyard. For example, if the lanyard were to get caught in a piece of machinery or wrapped around the individual's neck, the breakaway would separate the lanyard at the breakaway point, releasing and preventing injury to the wearer.

Breakaway lanyards are also a good option for schools. When children are required to wear lanyards, the breakaway function prohibits them from getting hurt when catching the lanyard on a piece of playground equipment.

Employees may choose breakaway lanyards for ease of use too. Regular lanyards must be pulled on over the head, where breakaway lanyards can be attached like a necklace. If employees are required to wear hardhats, for example, a breakaway lanyard can easily be put on regardless of the hat.

Breakaway lanyards are preferred in the following environments when ID cards and lanyards are required:

  • Manufacturing
  • Construction sites
  • Schools
  • Prisons
  • Psychiatric hospitals
  • Nursing care facilities
  • Hospitals
The breakaway function is available on all stock and custom lanyards. For increased protection, double breakaway lanyards are also available. These lanyards separate at two different points to ensure safety.
