Each June, the National Safety Council encourages businesses to pay special attention to safety issues at their organization during National Safety Month. I agree that it’s important to look at your organization’s safety strategy on a regular basis. It’s easy to set and implement a strategy and never reexamine it as long as no major issues arise.
However, getting complacent in your safety strategy can lead to oversights occurring at your organization.
For example, have you looked at your visitor management policy lately? How are visitors admitted to your building? Are they identified at all?
What about employees? At what stage in the onboarding process do new employees receive ID cards? How are they identified around the building before that?
Identifying the people in your facility is a key component to maintaining a safe and secure workplace for your employees, staff or students. Implementing a photo ID card policy as part of your safety strategy can be critical to ensuring you permit the correct people into your building.
If you’d like to reevaluate your safety strategy, we have a free resource in our Knowledge Center to get you started in the process. Read and apply our Workplace Security Audit Checklist as part of your observance of Safety Month!
