Your Identity: in Just One Word!

Think of the last time you were at a concert or a ballgame, surrounded by thousands of people laughing and talking and yelling at the same time. Your brain was working overtime to filter the external noise in order to converse with the person next to you. The brain is an amazing tool and uses its power to get this filtering job done.

Out of all the words being filtered through your brain, there is one word that will capture your attention even when mumbled by someone far away. It is your name. Your name is the most recognizable word in the universe for you. If you’re ever in a crowded place and you yell, “MOM,” you will immediately get every mom to stop whatever they’re doing and look at you.

For my name, Maggie, I am often alerted to people nearby who are talking about their dog… Thanks for that, mom and dad! There have been many times when “Maggie went to the bathroom in the middle of the living room again,” or “Maggie jumped on the neighbor and licked her face.” I always have to turn to the people around me and say, “Sorry, I just couldn’t control myself!”

But back to my point- names are important, and they get our attention.

There is a reason why Coca-Cola did the “Share a Coke” campaign this past summer. If you are not familiar with this campaign, Coca-Cola changed all of their can and bottle packaging to say “Share a Coke with ‘insert name.’”

 

 

They sold more than 250 million named bottles and cans in a nation of just under 23 million people. There was an overwhelming demand for personalized cans, and this campaign was a massive success. Lucie Austin, who at the time was director of marketing for Coca-Cola South Pacific, shared some good insight in an interview published by Jay Moye.

She said, “At the end of the day, our name is the most personal thing we have. It’s our fingerprint… our identity… in one word. We gave consumers an opportunity to express themselves through a bottle of Coke, and to share the experience with someone else. The fact that your name is on a Coke bottle, it can’t get more personal than that! The campaign capitalized on the global trend of self-expression and sharing, but in an emotional way.”

Employee Appreciation Day is Every Day at the ‘ville

This week was electric at the ‘ville! In honor of Employee Appreciation Day, we dedicated a whole week to appreciate our employees and all the hard work that they do. With the winter we’ve had here in Michigan, our management staff thought that a Winter Warmup Week would be appropriate! Each division of the Baudville Corporation was assigned a different tropical location and given the task of decorating their department and organizing an activity for lunch time. We had a week full of games, food, and festivities!

The IDville and Operations crews took us on a Monday afternoon voyage to the Caribbean, where the pirates invaded. Employees walked the plank with a canon (balloon) in between their legs and popped it to reveal their prize straight from the treasure chest! Shiver me timbers it was a good time!

Our hi5 crew and the Baudville Marketing and Product teams threw a Mexican fiesta on Tuesday! We had some delicious Mexican treats and played some great games during lunch. ¡Ay, qué rico!

The Baudville sales suite had us feeling relaxed all day Wednesday with a Jamaican getaway. They decked out their suite with hammocks to capture an island vibe and hosted a lunch time dance party!

The Distribution Center had us surfing in Hawaii on Thursday. It was a luau to remember with hula girls, “pina coladas”, and a photo station.

The final surprise ta-da from the management team started with new water bottles with fruit infusers. They catered in On-the-Border lunch for all employees, and had games with fabulous prizes.

Identify your Employees’ Awesomeness

In America, the #1 reason most people leave their jobs is because they don’t feel appreciated. With Employee Appreciation Day coming up this Friday the 6th, there’s still time to plan something fun that will let your employees know you appreciate them.

Try one of these simple IDville ideas:

•    Use a badge printer to create incentive cards that you can reward your employees with. Some examples would be a card that says “Leave 30 Minutes Early on the Day of your Choosing,” “One Free Casual Day,” etc.

•    Host a “security” meeting to remind employees why proper identification is critical to your business’s overall success. All employees use their name badge to enter into a drawing for a prize.

Think of recognition programs as an investment, not an expense. With even a little bit of recognition, employee engagement has been shown to increase by 60%!

A Valentine’s Day Game Your Students Will Love!

In light of the quickly-arriving Valentine’s Day, we at IDville wanted to share a game that your students are guaranteed to love! 

The rules are as follows: Each student will start off with their nametag or ID badge placed over their heart. Outside of class time, girls are not allowed to talk to boys, and boys are not allowed to talk to girls. The first member of the opposite sex that you accidentally talk to gets to claim your nametag and wear it for the rest of the day. For easy badge clipping, check out our ID Badge Clips! The object of the game is to end up with the most nametags by the end of the day. Your students will love it!

Making badge wear FUN!

While ID badge accessories are a great solution to getting your team or students to wear their ID badges each day, sometimes that’s still not enough. We’re going to give you some fun ideas to help encourage people to wear their ID badges each and every day!

Create a “Gotcha” game where on certain days management or teaching staff will hand out small prizes for those people “caught” wearing the ID badges. The main object is to not tell students or staff when these days or times will be so that they’ll always want to have their badge, just in case! 

Hold a simple raffle where each person wearing their ID badge on a certain day gets their name put into a drawing for a prize of your choosing. As a bonus, each eligible day when people are wearing their badge gets them an extra raffle ticket for the final drawing. Again, don’t let people know which days they’ll be given raffle tickets. 

Turn ID badges into a sort of “pass” for certain areas of the building or certain activities that will be happening. Make ID badges required for entry or participation so that it encourages everyone to wear their badge for the day. 

Simply acknowledging those students and staff with a kind word that are wearing their ID badges may go further than you think as well. Let those who are playing by the rules know that you appreciate their little added effort by telling them “good job” or “thank you”. 

Getting your students or your team members to wear their ID badges on a daily basis doesn’t have to be a daily struggle. Get creative and make wearing ID badges fun!

Another Successful SHRM Conference!

The dust has settled on another great year at the SHRM 2014 Annual Conference and Exposition and we can honestly say it was another great show! What an amazing event to be a part of and what an honor to be able to network with so many great professionals in the world of human resources! 

IDville participated as an exhibit sponsor for the fourth year in a row June 22 – 24 in Orlando, FL. We were able to talk with over 1,600 Human Resources professionals to see how identification is handled in their workplaces. 

SHRM was such a great opportunity to see current customers’ excitement about the success of their ID Maker® systems and to chat with others whose buildings are looking for a security upgrade through the use of ID badges. 

Some of the excitement of SHRM was, of course, watching people’s excitement to receive one of our badge accessory favorites – “bling” lanyards. Booth visitors also took part in games and raffles to win other great prizes, including a FREE ID Maker Value System

All-in-all SHRM 2014 was a great success. We’re so thankful to be able to get out of the office and meet some of our loyal customers and help others to create a secure environment for their team members. And of course, we’re already looking forward to SHRM 2015 in the sparkling city of Las Vegas!

Coming down from the recent high of Customer Service Week, I’ve started to think a lot about the impact great service has on our everyday decisions about where we’ll spend our money. Although I am a bargain hunter, I’m willing to pay a little extra if it means getting better customer service.

This brings to mind a disappointing experience at some jewelry stores a few years back. As my husband and I walked into the first store, not one associate looked up from what they were doing to even say hi or let us know they would be right with us. Being advocates of receiving great service where you spend your money, we promptly left that store and entered a second, only to receive the same treatment – no treatment.

Understandably, we were beginning to get frustrated until we walked into the third store. Although each associate was assisting a customer, one looked up and said hello and yet another let us know that she would be with us in just a few minutes. This was more like it! Once our associate finished up with her current customers she came right over and gave us her undivided attention (with the exception of saying “hello” to other customers) for over an hour! My husband ultimately had the final say and a few months later, I was happy to learn that he had chosen to purchase a beautiful ring from the jeweler “with a personality”.

Every single jewelry purchase since has been from the same company and I can honestly say I don’t think we’ll ever go anywhere else!
