[Nick]Nameplate: Bacon Boy

by Maggie 22. June 2015 14:01

Do you have any nicknames for your coworkers or employees? Create a custom engraved nameplate to proudly display them. It’s such a simple way to boost company morale! Here’s an example of one proudly displayed at IDville. It never fails to make me grin!

It is my honor to introduce you to one of our super-system specialists at the ‘ville, Lee, more commonly referred to as “Bacon Boy.”

You might be wondering-“How is one deemed the ‘Bacon Boy’?”

Well, the story behind the infamous “Bacon Boy” is really a pretty simple one. Here it is, straight from the horse’s mouth:

Bacon Boy: “During my interview process, Jennifer (sales manager) asked the hard-hitting questions and then informed me that two senior members of the team were going to interview me also.

In walked two experienced system specialists, Jason and Alan. They introduced themselves, and then Jason took over. After a few minutes he turned to Alan for his turn of questioning.

Alan said with a stern face ‘I have one important question. You can take as much time as you need to think about this, but think hard about your answer before you reply. What is your opinion on…bacon?’

I couldn’t decide if I was more shocked by the question at hand or that he was able to hold a straight face while asking it. Little did I know that what I was about to say next would create an identity for me that would stick.

I said, ‘I think bacon is one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind.’ With the tension broken, I proceed to inform them about a revolutionary way to cook bacon called the bacon weave (shown right). A bacon weave is exactly what it sounds like-strips of bacon woven together to create a blanket of bacon.

From that moment on, I received multiple inquires to the art of the bacon weave and was deemed bacon boy. They even created a custom nameplate for my special nickname that I display proudly at my desk!”

Well there you have it folks-the story behind the one-of–a-kind nameplate and the nickname.

And nobody ever wonders what Lee will bring as his dish to company potlucks anymore…bacon of course!

If you call in today, you might get lucky enough to talk to this super-system specialist!

National Nursing Assistants Week

by Maggie 11. June 2015 16:20

Today marks the start of National Nursing Assistants (NA) Week, lasting from June 11-18! Nursing Assistants provide 80 to 90 percent of the direct care received by clients in long-term care facilities.  They bring patience, a caring attitude and wisdom to their practices. National Nursing Assistants Week is a great time to recognize the unique contributions of these unsung heroes!

One of our customers, Hannah, chose IDville’s custom lanyards to show appreciation to her Certified Nursing Assistants to celebrate NA week! Hannah is a nursing home HR manager at Grandview Manor Care Center, in Franklin, North Carolina. She ordered custom lanyards for each CNA with their name embroidered on one side and “Grandview Manor Care Center” on the other. What a great way to honor each nurse individually and thank them for their work!

Being a CNA is no easy job. One of my good friends Elise is a CNA at Providence Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Downers Grove, IL. She has shared some horror stories with me, but has also shared about how her care has impacted her patients. She said, “Being a CNA is a very fulfilling experience. Every single day I get to participate in my patients' journey to heal. I get to establish strong relationships with the residents and it's exciting to see them get back to their normal functioning level through rehab care.”

So thank you, Elise. Thank you, Hannah. And thank you to all other Nursing Assistants that care for others every day. We appreciate you!

Student ID cards: Securing the Identity Chain

by Maggie 28. May 2015 12:05

Security is a made up of a chain of elements. Don’t let the campus card be the weakest link.

In a recent article from CR80 News, Andrew Hudson warns his audience about the use of university ID’s in orchestrating identity theft or other fraudulent activities.

Universities and schools- be aware of this!

There have been cases of students who have fraudulently obtained an ID card that is then used to obtain more secure IDs. Should this student then use the newly acquired credentials for identity theft or criminal acts, the paper trail could be traced back directly to the university.

For example, to obtain documents such as a Social Security card, the applicant must first produce a U.S. driver license, state-issued ID card or U.S. Passport. But if for whatever reason these documents are not available, other documents including the student ID card will be considered.

Even though using a university ID to participate in illegal activity is an extreme case, it is worth paying attention to as identity theft and fraud becomes more advanced. “If not for the sake of the cardholders, then it should be done to avoid the liability that a university could incur if its credentials were used illegally.”

Student ID cards are a key security feature of campus life, but should only be accepted within campus limits. In order to protect individuals and universities, student IDs should not hold legitimacy for obtaining more secure IDs.

Student ID cards are a strong link on the identity chain, let’s keep them that way!

To learn more about how IDville can keep your student ID link strong on the security chain, contact one of our system specialists at 1.866.438.4553, or shop online at

ID cards in the news: IDNYC

by Maggie 26. May 2015 10:07

“8 Million New Yorkers. 1 Card For All Of Us!”

Starting in January of 2015, New York has been issuing free municipal identification cards for all New York City residents…and the line is out the door and wrapped around the city.

What is IDNYC?

It's a government-issued photo ID card available to all New York City residents over the age of 14, including undocumented immigrants, who in the past had no identification they could use to access services such as open a bank account, use a city library or use to pay utilities.

“IDNYC benefits every city resident, including the most vulnerable communities—the homeless, youth, the elderly, undocumented immigrants, the formerly incarcerated and others who may have difficulty obtaining other government-issued ID.”

The goals of this new card are to enhance public safety, grant access to services to the public, and provide a series of benefits to cardholders, like free one-year membership to museums, zoos, concert halls, and botanical gardens.

Right away, the demand was overwhelming! Lines were wrapped around the building and appointments were booked up to six months to get an ID card

Over 100,000 New Yorkers have already benefited from this, and a projected half a million immigrants will benefit from the card.

Although there have been concerns regarding some potential negatives of this card, there have already been a lot of positive outcomes.

Here are just a few:
• The increased access to cultural institutions is creating an erudite population.
• Identification decreases the number of individuals who are arrested for not being able to verify their identity, which reduces stress on the overwhelmed courts and crowded prisons.
• Identification (while not providing work authorization) legitimizes a person in an employer’s eyes.

Identification is something we often take for granted-until we don’t have it. It is easy to overlook how essential identification is to thrive in a community.

This movement is spreading to other cities, providing new opportunities for those who didn’t have means to identification before. With safety and the well-being of city residents in mind, this new municipal identification program is doing great things to build a strong community and enhance the city experience of all city residents. What a great way to contribute to the beautiful American melting pot!

Maximize your networking with a simple name badge

by Maggie 6. May 2015 12:34

At a conference, mixer or other event with a large group of people, a name badge is much more professional then a sticky, and is much easier for others to read. And remember, wearing your logo is a form of branding!

Another benefit is helping other people remember who they met. Hearing and seeing your name and company multiplies the chances others will remember you. So maximize your networking with a simple name badge!

Our ID Maker Software is user-friendly and easy to use.  It gives you the tools you need to design and print ID cards. Follow these guidelines for what information to include on your name badge. Remember to keep it simple for the customer. Only give them the information they need.

  1. Settings where a title on your badge may be a good option:
    • Conferences or tradeshows
    • Your place of work
*Place your title underneath your name in a smaller font size
  2. A setting where just your first name on your badge may be a good option:
    • Selling to customers in a store environment
  3. A setting where both your first and last name on your badge may be a good option:
    • Meeting people you intend to get to know and see in the future

What about industry credentials or marketing tag lines? I wouldn’t recommend adding anything else. Keep it simple.

Your name tag should serve as your introduction and usually nothing more. For people to remember your name and company, you need to make them stand out. With other information on your badge, your name and company runs the risk of getting lost in the jumble. People glance at a name badge, not read it like a book.

Once you’ve created your ideal name badge, the next step is choosing a form of backing. The backing refers to how the badge will attach to your clothing.
We offer many different options for name badge attachments:

When one of your main goals is networking, I would recommend either a badge holder or a badge clip. More specifically, I would recommend our framed badge holders or our Adhesive Magnetic ID Attachment.

Framed badge holders are useful for networking because they can make your ID badge stand out. Try matching the color of your frame to a color in your logo or the text of your name. You can even use different color frames to identify different groups of people.

Adhesive Magnetic ID Attachments are great tools for networking, because they are hidden, keeping the customer from distraction. A lot of people choose magnets, because they’re quick and easy to put on and don’t leave little holes. However, if you have a pace maker or other type of electronic device within your chest cavity, you should not use a magnet without your doctors permission as a magnet may interfere or stop your medical device from working.

Another tactic to use while networking at large events is creating custom lanyards that will unify your brand. Our full meeting and event line is a great tool for everything meeting and event! An example is IDville’s sponsorship of Tulip Time in Holland, MI. IDville joined Tulip Time as an Event Identification sponsor. Jennifer Reeves, IDville’s sales manager said, “We had an opportunity to help Tulip Time unify their volunteer identification, while branding the organization at the same time. By sponsoring this event, we were able to provide them with an ID Maker printer system, lanyards, and other accessories to help them easily identify the over 3,000 volunteers that help make this annual event a success.” Having unified identification for all volunteers and staff of this event made networking simple and memorable!

Identification is key to networking but is often overlooked. Follow these simple tips and watch your network grow exponentially! It’s not about what you know, it’s about who knows you! For more information, contact one of our system specialists at 1.866.438.4553, or shop online at

May 1 Fun! Get Caught Reading Month

by Maggie 1. May 2015 08:55

There is so much excitement in the air this morning! First of all it is Friday, and the sun is shining, catalog craziness is wrapping up in the office, spring is finally ready for more of a committed relationship, and the beginning of a new month brings endless opportunity!

With school winding down, don’t forget to think about your teachers this weekend, because next week is Teacher Appreciation Week!  Write them a note of encouragement, thanking them for all they’ve invested in you or your children. Make a craft for them that shows them how much they are appreciated. Buy them one of our Apple a Day Fashion Beaded Lanyards to make all the other teachers jealous.

May is also Get Caught Reading Month, so once you’re done thinking about your teachers this weekend, bury your nose in a book! Get Caught Reading Month began in 1999 as a way to remind people of all ages how much fun it is to read for pleasure. Exposure to language at a young age has been scientifically proven to stimulate brain growth in children, and children who have been regularly read to have a large advantage over their peers by the time they start school.

So reignite that passion for reading, whether it is the classics, chick-lit, the latest thriller, or just your favorite magazine or the sports pages. Go on, crack open a book and GET CAUGHT READING!

Your Identity: in Just One Word!

by Maggie 13. April 2015 12:04

Think of the last time you were at a concert or a ballgame, surrounded by thousands of people laughing and talking and yelling at the same time. Your brain was working overtime to filter the external noise in order to converse with the person next to you. The brain is an amazing tool and uses its power to get this filtering job done.

Out of all the words being filtered through your brain, there is one word that will capture your attention even when mumbled by someone far away. It is your name. Your name is the most recognizable word in the universe for you. If you’re ever in a crowded place and you yell, “MOM,” you will immediately get every mom to stop whatever they’re doing and look at you.

For my name, Maggie, I am often alerted to people nearby who are talking about their dog… Thanks for that, mom and dad! There have been many times when “Maggie went to the bathroom in the middle of the living room again,” or “Maggie jumped on the neighbor and licked her face.” I always have to turn to the people around me and say, “Sorry, I just couldn’t control myself!”

But back to my point- names are important, and they get our attention.

There is a reason why Coca-Cola did the “Share a Coke” campaign this past summer. If you are not familiar with this campaign, Coca-Cola changed all of their can and bottle packaging to say “Share a Coke with ‘insert name.’”

They sold more than 250 million named bottles and cans in a nation of just under 23 million people. There was an overwhelming demand for personalized cans, and this campaign was a massive success. Lucie Austin, who at the time was director of marketing for Coca-Cola South Pacific, shared some good insight in an interview published by Jay Moye.

She said, “At the end of the day, our name is the most personal thing we have. It’s our fingerprint… our identity… in one word. We gave consumers an opportunity to express themselves through a bottle of Coke, and to share the experience with someone else. The fact that your name is on a Coke bottle, it can’t get more personal than that! The campaign capitalized on the global trend of self-expression and sharing, but in an emotional way.”

So what does all of this have to do with IDville’s product? EVERYTHING! Identity is the name of our game. From workplace safety to community, we’re here to help you!

We have a variety of products that will meet your identification needs:
ID Cards
•    ID Card Printers
Name Plates and Office Signs

In the workplace (among many places), people are more likely to answer when they are addressed by name. It’s important to know the names of the people you are working with; it’s a sign of respect. Do it for the new guy who’s bad with names!

Employee Appreciation Day is Every Day at the ‘ville

by Maggie 13. March 2015 13:58

This week was electric at the ‘ville! In honor of Employee Appreciation Day, we dedicated a whole week to appreciate our employees and all the hard work that they do. With the winter we’ve had here in Michigan, our management staff thought that a Winter Warmup Week would be appropriate! Each division of the Baudville Corporation was assigned a different tropical location and given the task of decorating their department and organizing an activity for lunch time. We had a week full of games, food, and festivities!

The IDville and Operations crews took us on a Monday afternoon voyage to the Caribbean, where the pirates invaded. Employees walked the plank with a canon (balloon) in between their legs and popped it to reveal their prize straight from the treasure chest! Shiver me timbers it was a good time!

Our hi5 crew and the Baudville Marketing and Product teams threw a Mexican fiesta on Tuesday! We had some delicious Mexican treats and played some great games during lunch. ¡Ay, qué rico!

The Baudville sales suite had us feeling relaxed all day Wednesday with a Jamaican getaway. They decked out their suite with hammocks to capture an island vibe and hosted a lunch time dance party!

The Distribution Center had us surfing in Hawaii on Thursday. It was a luau to remember with hula girls, “pina coladas”, and a photo station.

The final surprise ta-da from the management team started with new water bottles with fruit infusers. They catered in On-the-Border lunch for all employees, and had games with fabulous prizes.

A big thanks to all of the people who helped plan this week and to our employees once again for being the best around! If IDville sounds like a place you would like to work check out our career opportunities at We’d love to have you on our team!

Identify your Employees’ Awesomeness

by Maggie 4. March 2015 16:38

In America, the #1 reason most people leave their jobs is because they don’t feel appreciated. With Employee Appreciation Day coming up this Friday the 6th, there’s still time to plan something fun that will let your employees know you appreciate them.

Try one of these simple IDville ideas:

•    Use a badge printer to create incentive cards that you can reward your employees with. Some examples would be a card that says “Leave 30 Minutes Early on the Day of your Choosing,” “One Free Casual Day,” etc.
•    Create a safety awareness program by rewarding all employees who wear their badges daily.
•    Design a
custom lanyard that says, “We appreciate you.” or “My Boss Thinks I’m Extra Awesome.”
•    Small companies can reprint employee badges with fun new titles for the day or week “Purveyor of Potlucks,” “Queen of Sales,” “Master of getting things done!” “Ms. Indispensable,” “Chief FUN Officer,” etc.
•    Host a “security” meeting to remind employees why proper identification is critical to your business’s overall success. All employees use their name badge to enter into a drawing for a prize.

Think of recognition programs as an investment, not an expense. With even a little bit of recognition, employee engagement has been shown to increase by 60%!

Of course, our parent company, Baudville features a wide variety of gifts perfect for celebrations like Employee Appreciation Day! And there’s still some time to show the love to your team this week. Have fun!
