ID cards in the news: IDNYC

by Maggie 26. May 2015 10:07
Maggie

“8 Million New Yorkers. 1 Card For All Of Us!”

Starting in January of 2015, New York has been issuing free municipal identification cards for all New York City residents…and the line is out the door and wrapped around the city.

What is IDNYC?

It's a government-issued photo ID card available to all New York City residents over the age of 14, including undocumented immigrants, who in the past had no identification they could use to access services such as open a bank account, use a city library or use to pay utilities.

“IDNYC benefits every city resident, including the most vulnerable communities—the homeless, youth, the elderly, undocumented immigrants, the formerly incarcerated and others who may have difficulty obtaining other government-issued ID.”

The goals of this new card are to enhance public safety, grant access to services to the public, and provide a series of benefits to cardholders, like free one-year membership to museums, zoos, concert halls, and botanical gardens.

Right away, the demand was overwhelming! Lines were wrapped around the building and appointments were booked up to six months to get an ID card

Over 100,000 New Yorkers have already benefited from this, and a projected half a million immigrants will benefit from the card.

Although there have been concerns regarding some potential negatives of this card, there have already been a lot of positive outcomes.

Here are just a few:
• The increased access to cultural institutions is creating an erudite population.
• Identification decreases the number of individuals who are arrested for not being able to verify their identity, which reduces stress on the overwhelmed courts and crowded prisons.
• Identification (while not providing work authorization) legitimizes a person in an employer’s eyes.

Identification is something we often take for granted-until we don’t have it. It is easy to overlook how essential identification is to thrive in a community.

This movement is spreading to other cities, providing new opportunities for those who didn’t have means to identification before. With safety and the well-being of city residents in mind, this new municipal identification program is doing great things to build a strong community and enhance the city experience of all city residents. What a great way to contribute to the beautiful American melting pot!

IDville: Tulip Time’s Resource for Event Identification

by Maggie 24. April 2015 14:46
Maggie

It's about that time again in West Michigan...Tulip Time! This year marks Holland, Michigan's 86th year of hosting the Tulip Time Festival taking place from May 2-9.

“The Holland Tulip Time Festival invites the world to join the dance as we celebrate our Dutch heritage with a festival showcasing our dynamic community and its spectacular tulips.” The Holland, Michigan area boasts nearly 4.5 million tulips, planted in City parks, at public attractions, and along City streets. The tulips are currently in the process of shooting up just in time for the festival!

The tulips that bloom are only part of the attraction, as there are also
national entertainment acts, events & activities for all ages, Dutch Dance performances, and some of the largest parades in Michigan!

Come see for yourself why Readers Digest has named The Holland Tulip Time Festival the “Best Small Town Festival in America”!

This year, IDville has the pleasure of being on of Tulip Time’s sponsors, and we’re really excited about the opportunity! Our IDville Sales Manager and Holland native, Jennifer Reeves, has a few words to share about IDville’s Tulip Time sponsorship.

Jen is a tulip enthusiast and loves beaching it on the weekends at Holland State Park. Her favorite tulip time activity is watching the Klompen dancers perform on 8th Street – “Hundreds of dancers in the middle of the street performing in unison, while wearing (and high kicking) in wooden shoes? It’s a sight to be seen!”

Can you tell our readers a little bit about IDville’s role in Tulip Time 2015?

Jen: IDville joined Tulip Time as an Event Identification sponsor. We have an opportunity to help Tulip Time unify their volunteer identification, while branding the organization at the same time.
By sponsoring this event, we were able to provide them with an
ID Maker printer system, lanyards, and other accessories to help them easily identify the over 3,000 volunteers that help make this annual event a success.

What inspired you to take on the Tulip Time project that IDville is doing?

Jen: As a volunteer for Tulip Time, I’ve witnessed first-hand local businesses and organization come together to promote our community while fostering and growing business relationships. Our brand is a national brand, as is Tulip Time, which is one reason why this makes it a perfect fit.

In the past, Tulip Time used a variety of different formats to identify their volunteers, staff and board members. This year, the volunteers will be identified easily with their unified lanyards and badges. With over 400,000 visitors, it’s critical to have volunteers easily identifiable with the appropriate credentials to ensure the safety and security of all who visit. Our meeting and event products were a perfect fit!

Gwen Auwerda, the executive director of Tulip Time said, “Wow! Love all of it, easy to use. The custom lanyards (shown to the right) are very classy! Thanks a million, this raised the bar for us for sure!”

What is your favorite Tulip Time memory?

Jen: My first Tulip Time living in Holland, I volunteered to walk along the float my employer has entered into the parade. It wasn’t revealed to me until much later, that I would be expected to wear wooden shoes. Seven pairs of socks, and two miles later, I was smiling from the experience and ready for the next parade!

What is your favorite part about living in Holland?

Jen: Hands down, being so close to the beach. In the summer, I call Holland State Park my second home. In addition to the beach, we have one of the best downtown districts where it’s easy to grab a bite, shop or just stroll – even in the winter, thanks to our heat melt system. Finally, I love the people. Great friends, neighbors, business associates. To me, Holland is a place where that small town community feel is alive and well.

Come find us at the event and say hello, we’re excited to meet you and would love to help you meet any identification needs you may have! Visit our web at

Your Identity: in Just One Word!

by Maggie 13. April 2015 12:04
Maggie

Think of the last time you were at a concert or a ballgame, surrounded by thousands of people laughing and talking and yelling at the same time. Your brain was working overtime to filter the external noise in order to converse with the person next to you. The brain is an amazing tool and uses its power to get this filtering job done.

Out of all the words being filtered through your brain, there is one word that will capture your attention even when mumbled by someone far away. It is your name. Your name is the most recognizable word in the universe for you. If you’re ever in a crowded place and you yell, “MOM,” you will immediately get every mom to stop whatever they’re doing and look at you.

For my name, Maggie, I am often alerted to people nearby who are talking about their dog… Thanks for that, mom and dad! There have been many times when “Maggie went to the bathroom in the middle of the living room again,” or “Maggie jumped on the neighbor and licked her face.” I always have to turn to the people around me and say, “Sorry, I just couldn’t control myself!”

But back to my point- names are important, and they get our attention.

There is a reason why Coca-Cola did the “Share a Coke” campaign this past summer. If you are not familiar with this campaign, Coca-Cola changed all of their can and bottle packaging to say “Share a Coke with ‘insert name.’”

They sold more than 250 million named bottles and cans in a nation of just under 23 million people. There was an overwhelming demand for personalized cans, and this campaign was a massive success. Lucie Austin, who at the time was director of marketing for Coca-Cola South Pacific, shared some good insight in an interview published by Jay Moye.

She said, “At the end of the day, our name is the most personal thing we have. It’s our fingerprint… our identity… in one word. We gave consumers an opportunity to express themselves through a bottle of Coke, and to share the experience with someone else. The fact that your name is on a Coke bottle, it can’t get more personal than that! The campaign capitalized on the global trend of self-expression and sharing, but in an emotional way.”

So what does all of this have to do with IDville’s product? EVERYTHING! Identity is the name of our game. From workplace safety to community, we’re here to help you!

We have a variety of products that will meet your identification needs:
•
ID Cards
•    ID Card Printers
•
Name Plates and Office Signs

In the workplace (among many places), people are more likely to answer when they are addressed by name. It’s important to know the names of the people you are working with; it’s a sign of respect. Do it for the new guy who’s bad with names!

To learn more about simple solutions for your identification needs, contact one of our system specialists at 1.866.438.4553, shop online at http://www.idville.com, or find us at any of these tradeshows.

Maggie
In light of the quickly-arriving Valentine’s Day, we at IDville wanted to share a game that your students are guaranteed to love!

The rules are as follows: Each student will start off with their nametag or ID badge placed over their heart. Outside of class time, girls are not allowed to talk to boys, and boys are not allowed to talk to girls. The first member of the opposite sex that you accidentally talk to gets to claim your nametag and wear it for the rest of the day. For easy badge clipping, check out our ID Badge Clips! The object of the game is to end up with the most nametags by the end of the day. Your students will love it!

Necessary Supplies: Your students can wear their plastic ID cards, or check out our high-quality Paper Badges for the occasion!

If your students don’t already have plastic ID cards, consider investing in one of our ID Systems for a safer educational experience. Even if you don’t own an ID Maker® printer, we have affordable supplies for all major ID card printer brands. Just visit our Printer Supplies Locator or contact our friendly staff today at 1.866.438.4553 and we’ll make sure we get you just what you need.

Another Successful SHRM Conference!

by david 8. July 2014 10:35
david
The dust has settled on another great year at the SHRM 2014 Annual Conference and Exposition and we can honestly say it was another great show! What an amazing event to be a part of and what an honor to be able to network with so many great professionals in the world of human resources!

IDville participated as an exhibit sponsor for the fourth year in a row June 22 – 24 in Orlando, FL. We were able to talk with over 1,600 Human Resources professionals to see how identification is handled in their workplaces.

SHRM was such a great opportunity to see current customers’ excitement about the success of their ID Maker® systems and to chat with others whose buildings are looking for a security upgrade through the use of ID badges.

Some of the excitement of SHRM was, of course, watching people’s excitement to receive one of our badge accessory favorites – “bling” lanyards. Booth visitors also took part in games and raffles to win other great prizes, including a FREE ID Maker Value System

All-in-all SHRM 2014 was a great success. We’re so thankful to be able to get out of the office and meet some of our loyal customers and help others to create a secure environment for their team members. And of course, we’re already looking forward to SHRM 2015 in the sparkling city of Las Vegas!

Customers will be able to take advantage of up to $200 in discounts with this innovative upgrade program. It’s as easy as talking with one of the Identification Specialists at IDville who will give instructions about how to send the current printer to the facility.
