Technology in Schools

by Kelli 23. May 2016 09:05
Kelli

The conversation about whether technology in schools is helping or hurting the learning process is not new. In fact, it has been going on for decades. Advancements have made new tech increasingly user friendly and accessible, which is great but what role should it play in schools and what is the impact on students?

Those are great questions and I think we are finally at a point where we can actually measure the effects of previously used technology and make a strong thesis for what the impact of current and future technologies will be. But what about other uses for technology in schools? What about technology that does not directly impact the learning process but rather enhances the school’s ability to simply do what they do better?

20 years ago, schools were places the whole community gathered. It was a watering hole where everyone was welcome. Unfortunately, tragic events have happened and schools have been increasingly careful with whom they allow in their doors. Student safety has become a critical role for school administration and technology has played a part all successful security measures.

The implementation of student identification cards is one quick and effective way to restrict access to unwanted visitors. Identification cards can give students and employees custom access to external and internal doors. Identification cards also allow you to measure and keep track of what doors are being used as well as where students are going.

Safety is not something to wait on but if you need another reason to implement staff and student identification cards, another use for them can be found in the cafeteria. In this case study, you can read how Joliet Public Schools was able to identification cards to streamline their cafeteria purchasing system.

If you want to learn more about the use of technology in the classroom and the effect it may have on students, check out the Top Hat blog. If you are wondering about any possible identity card misuse, check out our past article.

Three Trends in the Identification Industry

by Kelli 16. May 2016 08:43
Kelli

Security is a complex thing, but at the same time it’s rather simple. The goal is to protect. Protect people, objects, buildings and more. The complexity is finding the most effective way to ensure said protection. Unfortunately, society is constantly being reminded of how important security is. The result is a demand for stronger security with more functionality. What follows are three strong trends in the identification industry:

Trend 1: Security is becoming more dynamic in response to real-time demands.

Identification issuances are needed immediately in many cases and waiting for a number of days is not an option. With the ability to create real-time issuances at the local level, organizations are able to become more flexible. Flexibility has proven to be a large business factor in meeting growing customer needs. By having the ability to make quick changes at the local level, organizations hold a competitive advantage.

Trend 2: Local levels are demanding more functionality.

With security measures being tightened and optimized at the local level, added ID Maker functionality is in high demand. Different organizations have different identification security needs. Higher demand for security functions alongside unique needs means that ID Makers are no longer one size fits all. Some of these desired functionalities include higher quality prints, larger volume prints, enhanced durability, quick activation and deactivation proximity cards, finger prints and alteration proof cards.

Trend 3: The desire for a more streamlined user experience.

With more and more individuals responsible for identification card printing, demand for a simple user experience is at an all-time high. No ID Maker is the same but with the right software mastering the tools to create the perfect ID card becomes very simple. New software is always being developed to deliver a more streamlined user experience while also incorporating the new desired functionality.

We anticipate these trends to continue as safety drives workplace satisfaction and businesses transition to a flatter business structure. If you are looking to implement some easy security tips, check out these 10 workplace safety tips. If you want to learn more about identification systems for your workplace we encourage you to check out our knowledge center where you will find helpful tips on how to choose the best system for your needs as well as step by step tutorials for getting started.

Who run the world? Nurses.

by Kelli 6. May 2016 09:06
Kelli

Nurses make the world go round. Well, not literally but hey they don’t stop! They work crazy hours and spend years with their noses in text books all so that they can serve you and me. With nurses, we improve, we gain strength, we gain hope. The ‘Ville is all about recognizing heroes and hard workers and few deserve the recognition more than nurses. So cheers to all you nurses…

As it relates to IDville, the healthcare industry as a whole should be obsessed with security. And it is, for the most part. Nurses, doctors and anyone else working or visiting those spaces need to be trusted. Hospital patients are at a vulnerable state and slipping up on security can literally be the difference between life and death. Security measures must be in place and enforced at all times making sure all visitors are accounted for and all employees have appropriate access. Nurse and doctor Identification also shows that they are experts in their field. Behind that ID card are years and years of knowledge and experience.

From the patient’s point of view, that card means hope. It means they are being taken care of by experts and can relax knowing that they are in good hands.

What’s on the ID card is important but it goes so much deeper than that. We say thank you to the healthcare industry and thank you to all the nurses and nurses in training. Keep calm and awesome on!

Tulip Time 2016!

by Kelli 2. May 2016 08:04
Kelli

May 7, 2016 to May 14, 2016 marks the 87th consecutive Tulip Time Festival in Holland Michigan! The festival is a small town event that attracts attendees and attention from across the country as is boasts millions of tulips lining the streets, a packed schedule of events like painting classes and fireworks, and even a record breaking dance performance!

Come see for yourself why Readers Digest has named The Holland Tulip Time Festival the “Best Small Town Festival in America”!

How we Sponsor:

IDville has the distinct pleasure of being the Event Identification Sponsor. The festival has hundreds of employees and volunteers and it’s critical to be able to identify them clearly and quickly in order for safety to be maintained and scheduled events to proceed on time. We will be fitting all employees and volunteers with identification cards and labeled lanyards so that the festival can achieve just that, a safe and timely event for the estimated 500,000 attendees. Our mission is to make the workplace better and we are thrilled to be able to provide that experience for the Tulip Time Festival.

Why it Matters:

As a West Michigan based brand, we strive to support fun community advancement in our area and we get to do just that and more by partnering with the Tulip Time Festival. In 2015, Tulip Time took every sponsorship and donation dollar and turned it into $9.20 for the city of Holland and charitable giving. That makes a total of $12.9 Million for advancement in West Michigan.

National Administrative Professionals Day

by Kelli 27. April 2016 10:58
Kelli

IDville and our other Baudville brands all have a common mission to make your workplace better. Not just better, but the BEST! That means we have a lot of work to do but one of the main pillars is to make all employees feel welcome and appreciated. Today is an awesome opportunity to help our followers do just that. If you haven’t heard yet, today, April 27, 2016, is National Administrative Professionals Day and it’s all over the place; just look on Twitter. We really hope you thought ahead and planned a fun gift and or celebration for anyone in that role but if you didn’t…

…here are some last minute ways to appreciate your co-works. (Note: You don’t have to be the boss to show appreciation!)

    1. Quickly and quietly have the staff sign a Thank You card.
    2.  Write a list of projects you couldn’t do without them and share with the whole team.
    3. Cater a fun lunch for the office/team.
    4.  Order flowers for immediate delivery (Maybe write a note suggesting you ordered it days ago?)
    5. Put in some effort to think or another yourself!

Best Practices and other notes:

  • Your effort level is noticed so plan ahead and put some real thought and effort into celebrating your co-workers.
  • This practice can be and should be done with more people than just co-workers (family, significant other, friends, etc.)
  • Think about their likes and dislikes and plan something they would like. A surprise party is fun but not everyone’s cup of tea.

How to Pick Your First ID Card System

by Kelli 21. April 2016 11:28
Kelli

Boss: We need to make our workers and workplace more secure.

Employee: Duh.

Boss: Let’s implement the use of employee identification cards that opens locked doors.

Employee: Sounds like a great idea.

Boss: That’s because I’m always right.

(Employee rolls eyes)

Boss: Good, go do it.

Employee: Oh. Me? Okay…Google here I come.

If you are looking for your first ID making system you probably have no idea what you’re doing or where to start. This post will walk you through the questions you need to ask yourself before you are ready to invest in a system for 5+ years.

1. Should we outsource our card making needs or make them in house?

2. How many cards will we need to print per year?

3.  Will we need to print on one or both sides of the cards?

  • The backs of cards are great for contact information, a product cheat sheet, fire alarm instructions and more.

4. Will we only need PVC cards or will we need mag strips, bar codes, proximity cards or other?

5. What else will we need? Software, camera, ink, lanyards and other accessories?

6. What’s my budget?

We have a lot of helpful information on IDville.com aimed at helping employees like you look good in front of your boss. Some of those pages include FAQ’s, IDville Advantage, Video Library, Info Packets and more. If you choose to make your ID cards in house and know all your needs, you are ready to choose your system! You can search by printing volume and one vs 2 sided printers. You can purchase all your printer needs and card accessories right from our website or you can call our system specialists at 1.866.438.4553 and they can walk you through the process and answer any detailed questions you have. Whether you order online or call in, you will receive a designated account manager that will stick with you for the life of your printer if you have any questions with your ID system at any time.

Hopefully this was helpful with your ID Maker decisions and we are always a call away if you have any questions.

Happy printing!

Baudville Brands take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!

by Kelli 18. September 2014 08:09
Kelli

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge made its way around Baudville the last couple of weeks. It started with the Baudville creative team and ended with IDville and the entire Operations department. The teams were all eager to participate and raise awareness about ALS and to help in the fight to find a cure.

In support of ALS research employees also donated funds to the ALS Association. Baudville quadrupled their donations to make a total donation of over $5,000 for this great cause. All of Baudville is excited to share its support and lend a hand to the ALS Association in their short- and long-term goals for ALS research. To see the videos of our teams completing the ice bucket challenge and to check out our other charitable contributions, visit Baudville’s Helping Hand
