Stock Up On Printer Supplies & Save!

by Kelli 6. January 2014 13:34

You have a group of new employees starting today and need to get them all set with their ID badges so they can begin their first day. You sit your first rookie down, take her ID badge photo, get everything set to print and you see the dreaded message that your printer ribbon needs to be replaced. You think to yourself, “Of all days, why today?!” And your new hires will likely be thinking, “What have I gotten myself into? They don’t even have things ready for me to get started on my first day, did they not know I was coming?”

Not only are your hew hires trying to make a positive first impression, you’ll also want to show them you’re excited (and prepared) to have them on board. Keeping an eye on your printing supplies stock will help you to avoid this embarrassment and maintain a positive first impression with your new employees.

Running out of printer supplies may also compromise your building’s security. Without being able to reprint ID badges when needed, you’ll have unidentified team members in your building, making it easier for unauthorized visitors to slip in undetected. It also puts your staff in an uncomfortable position – not knowing if the unrecognized person without a badge is a new hire or an intruder.

You’ll especially need to remain stocked up on printing supplies if your team utilizes their ID badges for time and attendance. Being able to reprint ID badges on-the-spot helps you avoid the hassle of payroll editing and ultimately, payroll mistakes.

Although IDville offers same-day shipping on orders received before 6pm, ID card printing supplies are not something you want to run out of! We offer supplies you’ll need for your ID card printer from every major manufacturer: EvolisZebraFargoDatacardMagicard and, of course, our own ID Maker® ID card printers. With IDville’s quantity discounts on ID printer supplies, the more you order, the more you save!

School Safety in the Spotlight

by david 30. December 2013 09:59

As parents, we’re endlessly concerned with our children’s safety, especially while under someone else’s supervision. Reasonably, the focus of many parents and school administrators, especially in the past year, has shifted to beefing up security in school districts nationwide.

Despite recent economic and government financial struggles parents, school staff and communities have been pushing for stronger security measures in schools. Not only has more attention been paid to this, in many school districts more funds are being allocated to this very important cause. As part of the overall academic mission, an increase in funding dedicated to school safety allows schools to maintain a peaceful and beneficial environment for their students.

According to ReminderNews in Connecticut, the state has released grant monies totaling $21 million to the state’s school districts to ramp up security. A total of 604 schools in Connecticut will benefit from these funds. Many other states are following this same course and requesting more money be allocated to the prevention of violence and tragedies by increasing school security measures.

Security enhancements some schools are looking to make or have already made include bullet-proof glass, security cameras, computer-controlled locks, buzzers and entry alarm systems, panic alarms, visitor management and photo ID badges used for identification and door access.

Not only is keeping students safe essential to their physical well-being, it’s also very important to their learning – how safe students feel directly and significantly impacts their ability to learn.

One effective way to improve school safety is to implement an ID badge policy. IDville features many simple, one-box ID card printer systems which include everything your school needs to get started printing photo ID badges within 15 minutes.

Another great safety element IDville offers is visitor management. With solutions ranging from visitor badges to the complete Visitor Express: School Edition® system, there are secure visitor options for any school’s needs.

Visitor Express: School Edition® protects your campus with features including instantaneous sex offender check and mapping, customizable visitor lists, emergency mass alerts and response reporting along with time-expiring visitor ID badge technology. This is a comprehensive system to improve safety and security by monitoring who’s in your building, who they’re visiting and their location. Visitor Express: School Edition® allows for secure visitor check-in in 30 seconds or less.

Whether or not there are increases in the security budget at your school, IDville’s complete ID card printer systems and visitor management solutions are affordable additions that – when paired with the right policies and staff to carry out those policies – will improve your school’s security, allowing students to feel safe and focus on their education.

Benefits of Photo ID Badges

by david 10. December 2013 08:35
david

Have you been considering the implementation of an ID badge policy at your organization? Below are several benefits of requiring your team to wear ID badges while at work that might help tip the scales toward ID badge use.

1. Safety & Security

2. Visitor Management

3. Time & Attendance

4. Improved Team Morale

5. Customer Service

6. Student Services Combination

7. Company Branding

Safety & Security-One of the most obvious and most important reasons for team members to wear ID badges is safety of the people and security of the assets in your building. Whether in a business, hospital, school or warehouse, safety should be a huge priority. ID badges are an uncomplicated way of identifying and safeguarding students, staff, visitors or customers. ID badges can also be used for external and internal door access to keep your building, assets and paperwork secure and determine who will have access to which areas of your company. Without policies to show who should be in the building and where they should or shouldn’t be, people will be able to just come and go at will.

Visitor Management-The use of ID badges in schools or businesses by all staff and/or students allows you to know who’s in your building and what the purpose and duration of the visit is. Requiring your students and staff or employees to display an ID badge will ensure that you can distinguish who should or shouldn’t be on property. For added visitor control, IDville’s Visitor Management solutions will benefit any industry.

Time & Attendance-ID badges can also be a great tool for time clocks. This allows team members to clock hours efficiently while avoiding the hassle of maintaining a time card. Simply adding a barcode to your ID badge design for your time and attendance system will result in less paperwork and filing due to more efficient and streamlined timekeeping processes.

Team Morale-Having all team members wear an ID badge will improve everyone’s sense of inclusion. It will also allow a great opportunity for employees to recognize each other by name when passing by, even if they don’t work together regularly. Customizable ID badge accessories can also help to create a sense of unity among your team, regardless of position or department. Some companies have even begun setting up programs with local businesses where their employees will receive discounts by showing their ID badge – what a great way for your team to really feel important!

Customer Service-If you’re in the service industry, requiring the display of ID badges allows customers to easily identify employees and put a face with a name, both building a rapport between the customer and employee and increasing employee accountability. Customers will be more apt to be able to address employees by their first name and because their name is prominently displayed, employees will be more likely to “be on their best behavior” while at work. Also, when customers can easily locate an employee when they need assistance this will improve the customer experience – boosting your company reputation.

Student Services Combination-There has been an increase in schools using student ID badges for more than just student identification. Several schools have added functionality to ID badges for library check-out, meal credit, access to residence halls, equipment check-out, student sporting events and activity admittance, lab access or even for discounts at local businesses.

Branding-Having an appealing, memorable ID badge is a great way to promote your company brand to both current and potential customers. By designing attractive, full-color ID badges prominently displaying your company name, logo and brand colors, you’re creating a great branding tool and customers will easily recognize your brand in the future.

Whether you’re looking for a simple photo ID badge to identify people on property or you want a badge with “the works”, a simple decision to implement an ID badge policy will open numerous doors to future possibilities with those ID badges. Advances in technology create increasing uses for ID badges and the possibilities will continue to grow. With the security, convenience and improvements in customer service and team morale, an ID badge system pays for itself many times over.

ID Badges...A Great Marketing Tool!

by Kelli 26. November 2013 09:49
Kelli
ID badges in the workplace are often primarily seen as informational, a security tool to improve employee and visitor safety. Many companies often overlook the effective company branding that a great ID badge offers.

Company branding is a quick and effective way of letting both prospective and current customers know what your company is all about, adding personal value to your company. Branding is essential to showing what your company does and the benefits customers will receive that set you apart from the competition.

To effectively utilize your team ID badges as a marketing opportunity, design attractive, full-color badges – prominently display your company name, logo and brand colors so they are easily noticed by customers. Having an appealing, memorable ID badge is a great way to promote your brand to both current and potential customers.

Employees displaying badges with the company name and logo will ensure it is continuously seen by customers. The more customers notice your ID badges, the more effective your branding efforts will be, allowing customers to more easily recall your company in the future, and ideally, they’ll continue to do business with you.

You can also give your team options to choose how to wear their badge so they are comfortable and the badges don’t distract them from their daily tasks. IDville has several badge-wear options ranging from clip attachments to customizable lanyards to retractable badge reels along with many other possibilities to choose from. Many of IDville’s accessories are customizable so you can add your logo or company name, again increasing customer awareness of your brand.

To add a personal touch to your ID badges and maximize the branding opportunity they provide, add your own special message – a mission statement, company motto or inspirational message that conveys brand beliefs, showing customers a little extra tidbit about your company. Creating and presenting a brand identity that consumers can identify with will ultimately build their trust and loyalty to your company.

IDville offers both single- and dual-sided ID card printer systems for everything you decide to include on your company badges. Whether the main goal for an ID badge policy is to easily identify team members or keep everyone safe, why not create an eye-catching branding piece at the same time?

It's Child Safety and Protection Month...

by david 11. November 2013 10:14
david

Keeping our kids safe is hard. While we can’t put them in a bubble to avoid all harm, we can be an active participant in their safety and security both inside our homes and outside.

November is Child Safety and Protection Month – the goal of which is to create awareness about potential dangers children face in everyday situations and to use new information to prevent possible hazards.

Although the main focus of this month’s observance is to remind people to take steps to keep their children safe while at home, they spend 6-7 hours or more every single weekday at school. That should be cause enough to shine a light on school safety this month.

All kids should have a safe school environment, free from worry of any violence, so the main focus can be on their education. As a parent, you can take an active role in school safety. This is your opportunity to brush up on the safety and security policies at your child’s school so that you can make sure your child has a firm grasp on them and reiterate the importance of those regulations.

Although many schools do require staff to wear and display an ID badge every day while on school property, as of 2010, there were still less than 10% of public schools requiring students to visibly wear their badge at school. Many students are already required to have an ID badge so many schools are changing their policy to require them to display that badge – a very small price to pay to make our students a whole lot safer.

ID badges are a great way for staff to easily identify whether someone should be on school grounds or whether they need to be asked to leave. It’s also a great way for staff to quickly identify a student by name. Let’s face it: while it would be nice for all staff to know each and every student walking the halls, it’s just not realistic, especially in larger schools.

Visitor management solutions are also a simple way to be well-informed about who is entering a school on a daily basis. This simple policy implementation requires that all school guests check in at the office before entering the building. Some even require that those guests wear a visitor tag or badge for the entirety of their visit.

IDville’s Visitor Express: School Edition protects your campus with the ability to scan a visitor’s ID and instantaneously run the information through the sex offender database. You can also create a customizable unwanted visitor list, an approved pick-up list and utilize time-expiring visitor badge technology. This visitor management solution is security for students and peace of mind for parents.

With such uncomplicated solutions to help in making our children safer at school, Child Safety and Protection month is a great time to re-evaluate all that’s being done. With increased school safety, the primary focus of both students and staff will be on education.

Tips for Taking a Great ID Badge Photo

by Kelli 4. November 2013 09:51
Kelli

If you’re anything like me, you don’t necessarily look forward to having your picture taken, especially for things like the dreaded driver’s license photo. Right up there with that (or possibly worse) is a picture for an ID badge. Think about it – your driver’s license stays in your wallet, tucked away from the eyes of your friends and coworkers. On the other hand, many companies require that team members display their ID badge, for all eyes to see!

There are a few simple things to keep in mind that will make having a photo taken for an ID badge as painless as possible. Given that fellow team members, customers and other company partners will be seeing the photo on your ID badge on a regular basis, you’ll want to make sure to looking your best in that photo.

Below is some advice for you and your ID badge “photographer” that will help you to put your best foot forward in your ID badge photo.

For the Subject:

Make sure to wear a flattering top that will look great in the photo. Avoid bright colors, big patterns and anything taupe, bright white or nude – these selections may wash you out or be distracting in a photo, especially when taken under fluorescent lights. I suggest sticking to darker colors (black, navy or dark blues and greens) or softer tones (soft whites, blues, greens, purples, etc.).

A large part of looking your best for your photo is ensuring that your hair is neatly styled and away from your face.

You may want to make sure no one is watching you, but be sure to practice your smile in the mirror. You’ll want your smile to be natural and relaxed – don’t smile too big or too small. If you decide you don’t want to smile at least relax your face to avoid looking tense or angry.

This seems like a no-brainer, but make sure to look at the camera. You’d be surprised how many ID photos are taken with the subject looking to the side or above the camera.

Relax yourself – especially your face – when “posing” for your photo.

For the Photographer:

Look for a place that has good lighting to take your team’s ID badge photos. The photo subject’s face should be seen clearly and any lights you use should be at least 3 feet away from the subject. This way the light isn’t in the picture and doesn’t cast a shadow or cause the subject to squint.

A plain background, such as the one provided with our ID Maker Systems, is always best for any ID badge photos. A wall that’s painted in a neutral tone or a backdrop in white, beige or light blue will result in the best photos. Your subject should then stand roughly one foot in front of the wall/backdrop to avoid shadows.

Talking to your subjects before taking the photos will help them relax, resulting in a better ID badge photo.

Turning on autofocus and auto flash in your camera settings will help you take the best possible photos of each team member with ease.

Consider investing in a tripod to steady the camera – keeping it still and level while taking ID badge photos.

Adjust camera height and angle as necessary so that just the subject’s head and shoulders are framed in the photo.

If you don’t like the photo you take, the team member probably won’t either. Review each photo after it’s taken so you’ll know before printing the ID badge if you should take another.

IDville offers full ID Card Systems, which include an ID card printer and software, a USB web cam and a white backdrop along with all of the other necessary supplies so you’ll be up and running ready to take those great ID badge photos in just 15 minutes!

Hopefully these tips and tricks will put you at ease when getting ready for an ID badge photo. For some great ID badge design ideas visit our Sample ID Card Library to get your creative juices flowing. Who knows, you might even end up liking your photo!

Set Yourself Apart With Great Customer Service

by Kelli 23. October 2013 11:50
Kelli

Coming down from the recent high of Customer Service Week, I’ve started to think a lot about the impact great service has on our everyday decisions about where we’ll spend our money. Although I am a bargain hunter, I’m willing to pay a little extra if it means getting better customer service.

This brings to mind a disappointing experience at some jewelry stores a few years back. As my husband and I walked into the first store, not one associate looked up from what they were doing to even say hi or let us know they would be right with us. Being advocates of receiving great service where you spend your money, we promptly left that store and entered a second, only to receive the same treatment – no treatment.

Understandably, we were beginning to get frustrated until we walked into the third store. Although each associate was assisting a customer, one looked up and said hello and yet another let us know that she would be with us in just a few minutes. This was more like it! Once our associate finished up with her current customers she came right over and gave us her undivided attention (with the exception of saying “hello” to other customers) for over an hour! My husband ultimately had the final say and a few months later, I was happy to learn that he had chosen to purchase a beautiful ring from the jeweler “with a personality”.

Every single jewelry purchase since has been from the same company and I can honestly say I don’t think we’ll ever go anywhere else! Each time I visit for a jewelry cleaning or inspection, I’m greeted with the same warm smile and kind greeting. I’ve recommended this jeweler to several friends simply on the grounds of their attentive customer service.

Even a couple of words spoken – or in some cases not spoken – to a potential customer can be the deciding factor in that customer’s decision to spend their money with you. It can also impact word-of-mouth about your company. If word gets out you’re treated like royalty each time you visit or contact a company, people will be begging for you to take their money. Well, maybe not that extreme, but they will be much more content with forking it over for your products if they’re treated well when connecting with your company.

IDville maintains best-in-class customer service and unmatched technical support. We answer every call in 15 seconds or less – a real person, no recording! You won’t find service like that anywhere else in the industry. We offer same-day shipping with frequent communication so you know when your order is packed and shipped. All customers who buy ID Card Systems can call and receive unlimited free support from one of our tech experts – you’ll never be directed to a manufacturer number or online manual. We stand behind our products with a satisfaction guarantee so customers can shop with confidence!
