Proper Display of ID Cards Improves Security

by todd 24. January 2011 09:21

Photo ID cards are an important part of a secure facility. But if ID cards aren’t displayed properly, they provide little if any help to your security efforts. To encourage students, staff, and employees to properly display their ID cards, you need to provide the necessary ID card accessories.

Carabiner Badge Reels – This badge reel is designed with a twist-free base that will keep your ID card facing forward at all times.

Strap Clips – The most popular (and affordable!) ID card accessory securely attaches your ID card to anything without permitting it to spin. Clipped to a shirt pocket or lapel, a strap clip will keep the ID card facing forward and easily visible.

Magnetic Badge Holders – Using magnets to display your ID badge is another way to ensure ID cards are always facing the right direction.

If you are still working through the ID card design process, consider making a two-sided ID card. Duplicate the most important information on both sides of the card, so it can be properly displayed even if it twists.

Visitor Management System at Community Hospital

by david 18. January 2011 08:49
david

This month, we’ve been talking about ways you can make your facility more secure in 2011.  A visitor management system is an important part of a secure facility because it gives you the knowledge of who is in your building. Community Hospital, an IDville customer, added a visitor management system to its security procedures to keep staff and patients safer. Here’s how they did it:

Visitor Login with Self Expiring BadgesCommunity Hospital is a 58-bed hospital in rural southwest Michigan that recently implemented a visitor management system. Even at its modest size, the hospital takes patient and employee security very seriously. To improve facility security, the hospital’s security committee created a visitor management policy to identify the numerous vendors, visitors, and contractors that visit the hospital on a regular basis.

Previously, visitors were announced at the reception desk and permitted into the hospital without any form of identification. When creating the visitor management policy, the security committee wanted a Visitor Login System at each of the two public entrances. All visitors who enter through the front or emergency room doors must pass by a receptionist who asks them to sign in. The other entrances into the hospital require an HID card that is given only to employees.

The visitor management system at the hospital now requires all visitors to sign-in and wear an adhesive name badge. The name badge changes color after 24 hours to indicate that the badge has expired. More importantly, the login process creates a record off all visitors, so the hospital can track vendors and visitors in the building.

Coming soon to IDville...

Increase Security with Facility Signage

by todd 11. January 2011 12:35

Identifying your facility with signs has several benefits for your organization. Facility signage can reinforce your brand and improve visitors’ experience as well as make your facility more secure.

Identifying rooms, work stations, gathering areas and employee desks equips the entire organization with valuable knowledge about the facility. In case of an emergency, people have a better understanding of the layout of the facility and can easily take directions thanks to the signs.

Thankfully, facility signage is easy to install and affordable. Our most popular product, Clearlook, allow you to create and print your own signs. Choose from a variety of different sized signs and mount it anywhere in your building. For a more elegant impression, order Clearlook Eilte engraved signs.

Assemble and mount Clearlook signage in three easy steps.

At IDville, every employee has a nameplate outside their desk and all meeting rooms are clearly labeled. When we had a tornado warning this fall, all employees understood which meeting room to take shelter in because they are very familiar with the room names.

Adding signage to your facility can improve the environment and security. Is your facility lacking clear signs?

Increase Security in the New Year with Photo ID Cards

by david 4. January 2011 09:59
david

Welcome to 2011! Do you have any New Years resolutions? This year, IDville made a resolution to help more companies create safe and secure work environments where learning, productivity, and innovation thrive.

Photo identification is a critical component of a safe work environment. In fact, it’s very common for schools, hospitals and businesses to have a photo identification card policy. If you already use photo ID cards at your organization, do you have a policy in place?

A photo ID card policy clarifies for employees, students and staff what the expectations are regarding an ID card. For instance, are ID cards used for buying lunches or checking out materials? Are individuals required to display their ID card with them at all times?

Start the New Year off right by putting a formal photo ID card policy into place. It doesn’t have to be long or elaborate. Follow our guidelines to craft your own policy for your organization.

An ID card policy should:

 Provide guidelines for information and design elements that must be included on ID cards.

 Outline the expectations for wearing and displaying the ID card.

 Describe how replacements can be obtained and the cost, if any.

 Explain all the ways ID cards are used. For instance, access control, time and attendance, making purchases or checking out materials, etc.

For more ID card policy ideas, look at similarly sized organizations in your industry. Their policies will provide a good benchmark for your own.

Something new is coming to IDville!
